Co-operative Membership

Become a Member of the Co-operative

Mornington Communications has been a co-op since 1994 and as a co-operative, it is owned by the members and governed by a Board of Directors. This unique distinction has enabled Mornington Communications to offer exceptional services at competitive prices and rewards members for their business by declaring annual dividends based on company profits.

To be a member of the co-operative:

  • Subscribe to telephone services with Mornington Communications
  • Be at least 18 years of age

Becoming a member:

  • There is a one time cost of $1.00 to join the membership.
  • You must also complete a membership form and return it to our office.  Once your membership has been approved, you will receive one voting share in the co-operative.

Benefits of Membership

Each time you subscribe to one of Mornington’s services, you are not just becoming a customer; you are making an investment in a company you own!   As an owner of the co-operative, you are entitled to certain benefits that are not available to customers of big name companies. A couple of these benefits include:

Patronage

Every November the Board of Directors reviews the co-operative’s margins, the excess revenue after operating costs.  A portion of the margin may be allocated back to the members in the form of patronage.  Members in good standing receive patronage annually as a credit on the February bill. The amount and on what services the patronage is paid on vary from year to year.

Patronage returns for 2009 were: 3%

Annual Meeting

Each year at the Annual Meeting, you have an opportunity to participate in the election of each representative on the Board of Directors. Their job is to oversee the operation of your co-operative and protect your investment.

The 2010 Annual General Meeting of Mornington Communications Co-operative Limited was held at the Perth East Recreation Centre on May 5th, 2010. At the meeting, the financials for 2009 were presented to the members by the auditor. The recipients of the 2010 Scholarships were announced.  Rick Kramer was acclaimed for a three-year term as a director. A two year director postition is open that will be filled by the board. Mornington Communications would like to thank all the attendees for taking part at the Annual Meeting and making it a success.
