Co-operative Membership

Become a Member of the Co-operative

You don't have to be a member of the co-operative to use any of the services offered at Mornington Communications.

To be a member of the co-operative:

  • Subscribe to telephone services with Mornington Communications
  • Be at least 18 years of age

Becoming a member:

  • There is a one time cost of $1.00 to join the membership.
  • You must also complete a membership form and return it to our office.  Once your membership has been approved, you will receive one voting share in the co-operative.

Benefits of Membership

Each time you subscribe to one of Mornington’s services, you are not just becoming a customer; you are making an investment in a company you own!   As an owner of the co-operative, you are entitled to certain benefits that are not available to customers of big name companies. A couple of these benefits include:

Patronage

Every November the Board of Directors reviews the co-operative’s margins, the excess revenue after operating costs.  A portion of the margin may be allocated back to the members in the form of patronage.  Members in good standing receive patronage annually as a credit on the February bill. The amount and on what services the patronage is paid on vary from year to year.

Patronage returns for 2008 were:

Local Service   3%
ALTO Long Distance 3%
Directory Advertising 3%
Internet 3%
Bundled Services  1.5%

Annual Meeting

Each year at the Annual Meeting, you have an opportunity to participate in the election of each representative on the Board of Directors. Their job is to oversee the operation of your co-operative and protect your investment.

The 2009 Annual General Meeting of Mornington Communications Co-operative Limited was held at the Perth East Recreation Centre on May 6th, 2008. At the meeting, the financials for 2008 were presented to the members by the auditor, the Board of Directors opened a discussion with members about the possibility of expanding membership and the recipients of the 2009 Scholarships were announced.  There was one Director position open. David Brand was elected for a one-year term. Mornington Communications would like to thank all the attendees for taking part at the Annual Meeting and making it a success.

For a complete look at the benefits, read our Membership Brochure for more information.
