Job Title: Installation Technician – Contract position

The customer demand for Mornington services has exceeded expectations. As a result, Mornington Communications is looking to immediately fill multiple Installation Technician contract positions. No previous industry experience required, the successful candidates will work beside seasoned technicians and receive valuable on the job training.

There is some customer interaction; discussion/planning with homeowners on where jacks and cables will be placed, plus training customers in the use of products and services. In this role, you will learn how to run and terminate cabling, general in-home WI-FI networking and the soft skills required when working with some interesting people. This is a great opportunity for someone that wants to learn about the telecom industry, fibre optics and excellent customer service.

This role is for people that enjoy periods of physical labour including digging, pulling cables and climbing into small crawl spaces. The work week is 40 hours and expected work hours are from 8:00 to 4:30. Some flexibility is required to accommodate heavy workloads and/or deadlines. The contract expiry date is December 31, 2019.

Qualifications:

  • Class G License with a clean record
  • Fall Safe Certificate (Mornington will provide training)

Education and Training:

  • Electronics Technician or similar (2yr diploma)
  • 1-2 years’ experience in wireless systems preferred
  • Mandatory Skills, Certificates and Education

General Skills:

  • Work safely
  • Good analytical ability and judgment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a minimum of direction
  • Exercises initiative and is innovative

Job Title: Multi-Service Technician – Wireless Specialty

Mornington Communications is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team of technicians. This position provides excellent compensation along with full benefits. On the job training will be provided. Start date to be negotiated.

Wireless Specialty – The primary role of this position is to specialize in the Wireless medium (as opposed to Fibre or Copper), and is the subject matter expert for the company. This covers Point to Point and Point to Multipoint circuits.

In addition, this person is responsible for installation of customer services and maintenance of the outside plant. This covers all product lines including: Internet, Telephone, IPTV, Security and Wireless. This position reports to the Plant Supervisor and/or Plant Manager.

Responsibilities, Functions and Duties:

1) Wireless Specialty

  • Installation and maintenance of customer premise equipment
  • Installation and maintenance of base station equipment
  • General understanding of tower structures
  • Manage 3rd parties as required (i.e.: tower riggers)
  • Strong understanding of frequencies
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements
  • There will be some working from heights

2) Customer Premise: Installation, repair and replacement of equipment

  • Installation and maintenance of customer premise equipment
  • Respond to Service Orders and Trouble Tickets in a timely manner
  • Update and maintain all plant and cable records as work is completed

3) Outside Plant: Installation, repair and replacement of equipment

  • Buried cable locates
  • General maintenance
  • Fibre and copper splicing and testing

4) Safety

  • Review and maintain current safety regulations and procedures
  • Inspect, maintain and replace personnel safety (PPE) and other equipment as necessary
  • Maintain your work environment in a clean, tidy and safe condition

5) Vehicles and Equipment

  • Inspect and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and tools and ensures that these are in good working order and are clean and tidy
  • Update logs as required

Working Conditions, Contacts and Position Impact:

Regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 4:30 with 30 minutes for lunch and allowance for two 15 minute breaks in each four hour period.

This position does have on-call after hours responsibilities.

There may be considerable effort required at times when pulling cable or in completing hand dug trenches.
Working outside is normal for this position, including work in inclement weather.

The work performed by this position is critical to providing the near perfect service levels expected of telecommunications equipment. The workers performing the duties of this position come into constant contact with customers in their homes. Great care must be taken to do both a good technical job, as to be as careful as possible with the home owners property.

This role has regular contact with technical trades, office and support staff encompassing internal peers, 3rd party vendors and customers.
